A few years ago a friend of mine encouraged me to look at some artwork by a surrealist named James Gleeson, who lives in Australia. His work took my breath away as soon as I laid eyes on it. Salvador Dali is probably the most famous surrealist but Gleeson's work grabs me. If you're interested in having a look at some albeit small samples of his work...here ya go.

It doesn't especially do much for me, but then art is all just in the eye of the beholder.

Yeah, its really personal taste.

I love that work but I know some people (eg. you) don't, I also don't like modern art.

I love some art. In fact I have an entire site with artists.
One such artist is Nick Begnaud.

in case you want to check out some of his works.

Seeing actual paintings is a different experience though. When I lived in New York, I went to visit Met pretty regularly. Seeing real things is not the same as seeing jpeg and gif files on the web. For instance, to be perfectly honest, I didn’t think much about Monet previously, but the real ‘Water Lilly’ was a pretty cool painting …

When you go travel, don’t you stop at art museums …?

You are right, iFA. I don't visit art galleries that much but I have been to Moma. I liked Monet's work before I saw it first hand, but I must agree that seeing it for real is that bit more special.

Another one I really liked was the work by Jackson Pollack. It’s gigantic. If you just see pictures on the web, you might say “What the …” But the real thing is pretty cool …
