What are you thoughts in general on using freelancers in India to do business with? The attaction to me is saving on costs, but what are the disadvantages?

Aaron

There are many things I can say, but ... ok, here's one thing.

Educated people speak and write in English fine, but they are not too familiar with US politics or economy. So, ... if you're hiring an Indian, then you have difficult time using him/her to create content; it can become difficult to assign him transcript type of work. (From what I understand, they are more familiar with UK politics and economy.)

Do you think this is still an issue if they are writing content for a website that is not directly politically-related?

To a limited extent, though adjustment can be made in this case. For example, many of them probably feel a bit strange about writing about beef as food. Another example; though wine is becoming more and more popular, from what I hear, most people still don't really understand the difference between whisky and wine, never mind understanding the difference between red and white wine. Interestingly, alcohol has never really been a part of Indian culture.

Blimey, I had never thought about things like this before...

I was on your travel forum and one member (probably Indian person) said that I was exaggerating. I don't think I'm exaggerating. I don't think that most people can explain differences between these two clearly. Kind of interesting. India has a very long history and it also has a very rich food culture, yet the culture of alcohol almost doesn't exist.

On reflection, I can believe it's reality. If alochol is something that barely exists where you are, then what reason is there to know anything about it?

There are number of small market places all over and there are two in my walking distance. Neither has a liquor store. From what I understand, some young people started enjoying drinking a bit recently, but ... it's not like they drink beer and wine everyday.
