I recently bought shares in Intercontinental Hotels (back in October), and since that time they've risen by 40% so I've been pretty pleased. The most significant increases have been quite recent, and its rumoured that there might be a takeover. Anyone here know any more about this?

InterContinental bid speculation
Jan 23 2007
Western Mail
BID speculation at InterContinental Hotels was yesterday given fresh impetus when it emerged the billionaire Barclay brothers now owned 5% of the group.
The increased shareholding of the pair's investment vehicle, Ellerman, fuelled rumours before the weekend that InterContinental was a takeover target.
Shares in the company - best known for its Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands - were at a record high yesterday after closing 4% stronger on Friday.
Ellerman held a stake in InterContinental previously, but it was below the threshold of 3% at which it would need to be disclosed to the market.

Yeah, I've been pretty lucky it would seem. However, I've been following the news since and, whilst the shares seem to continue to do OK, there seems to have been little further talk of a takeover. When takeovers happen, do they usually happen fairly quickly - or not necessarily?

What often happens is that one who plans takeover tries to buy large chunks of shares from big shareholders. He negotiate prices, terms, conditions, etc. Obviously a bunch of lawyers and accountants get involved. This doesn't take years, but this can take up to several months. _________________ Online Finance Education :: College Degrees |

There was one other potential buyer in the US... someone that used to be with Starwood. News has gone quiet on the subject more recently, but I guess this will hit the headlines again before too long... _________________ Business Forums - Business Add URL
