How many people here budget? Do you use a program such as Quicken to help you out?

I have tried using quicken in the past, truthfully the best budgeting practice I've found is a simple text file. I try to follow the strategy of David Bach's Automatic Millionaire, and have everything directly deposited/debited. This way I don't really have to think about budgeting expenses, its all done automatically.

I have set up sort of an "allowance" in a second checking account that my primary account feeds a bit out of every paycheck to. This "allowance" is blow money and I can take it all the way to zero and know that there is still enough in the primary acct to live.

Works for me *shrugs*

I have a lot of auto-budgeting going on, with money automatically going where I want it to go, etc.

I don't really budget. I just work hard, and make sure I'm comfortable enough to afford the things I want/need. If I don't really need something (eg. a fast car), I tend not to buy it.

I'm too much work hard and not enough rest and relaxation. You?

I like the idea of the secondary account for spending - I ought to do the same thing. Budgets are never fun and rarely easy but often required for a person to truly live within their means.

I use a very loose budgeting system. I am not living cheque to cheque, but I like being able tot track where my money is going.

I like to set monthly goals for savings, rather then trying to limit spending. This might sound like the same thing, but there is a big physiological difference.
