When buying shares, there's probably little point in buying, say, a few hundred $ worth. Not when you bear the transaction costs, stamp duty, etc. into account. It becomes too big a %.

What's the minimum amount that you would say is sensible to buy per transaction? A few thousand $...???

I would say $1000, with the thought in mind that your entire portfolio should be a minimum of $5000 and a minimum of 5 different equities.

I don't think that you can be diversified with less.

My thoughts exactly, IF $5,000 is not more than 1/3 of your total capital.
