From the BBC:
| Quote: |
There is a one in three chance of the UK going into a recession over the next two years, according to investment bank Lehman Brothers.
It says the global financial turmoil is increasing mortgage rates and predicts this will reduce consumer spending.
Lehman Brothers says the Bank of England will be forced to cut rates to 4% or lower to boost the economy.
The report comes as the latest revised official figures cut the annual rate of UK growth at the end of 2007 to 2.8%.
The annual growth rate in the October to December quarter was trimmed from an earlier estimate of 2.9%, and was the lowest rate since the second quarter of 2006.
The Office for National Statistics figures showed growth during the fourth quarter remained unrevised at 0.6%. |

| If the States go into recession, I think Europe will follow. |

I doubt this because they have been the powerhouse of europe other than russia for a while and the war in Iraq is biting them hard.If UK goes in to recession, then the situation will be much worse in the developing nations that are dependent on UK for survival.

Everyone seems to think the U.S. is going to go into a recession so I guess there is a greater risk for England coming up. _________________ 24HourStaff |

Although technically the US isn't yet in recession, the media reports and financial press that I've read have stated that all the indicators are there, and it's now just an inevitability. _________________ Business Forums - Business Add URL

Yeah, that is what everyone seems to be saying. That it is here or about to be, now it is just a matter of how long and intense.
I am not so sure, this election year can go either way in my mind. _________________ 24HourStaff |

I think it is varied. But by me the prices are still settling down. _________________ 24HourStaff |

Varied geographically or varied according to which end of the market you are at?
Or both?
Here in the UK prices haven't done a great deal for a while now, and there's a lot of scepticism and unease about what the rest of the year might bring. I feel as though this might be the way things are for a while yet. _________________ Business Forums - Business Add URL
